Viennese Art Deco Bronze Dancer by Josef Lorenzl, circa 1920
€3.400,00
Excellent piece of Viennese bronze art
The graceful, bare dancer with short, curly hair leads, with her upper body turned to the right, tilted slightly back and her bent elbows stretched horizontally from the body, a dance step forward on tiptoe. She keeps her head forward, the eyes closed.
The figure has a monochrome greenish patina and is based on a thin bronze plate, which is screwed onto a high, stepped marble base with a hexagonal, honeycomb-shaped floor plan. Signature 'Lorenzl' on the top of the bronze base.
Excellent and detailed quality of the composition, very lifelike representation, as is typical for Viennese bronze art.
Designed by Josef Lorenzl (1892-1950), an Austrian sculptor. His statuettes often show graceful dancers with long legs and closed eyes. Lorenzl also designed ceramics for Friedrich Goldscheider and Keramos. He was one of the most popular artists of Art Deco.
