Superb watercolor by René Gruau (1909-2004). Ink, watercolor and mixed media on paper. Signed lower right. Origin: Private collection, Paris. Given by the artist to the previous private owner and kept by him until now. Dimensions: Without frame (at sight) : H: 58.5cm, L : 43cm With frame : H 76cm L : 60cm René Gruau, Italian born, established in Paris he specialized in fashion drawing for Haute Couture fashion creators (Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy, Rochas etc.) and fashion magazines (Vogue, Marie-Claire etc.). He moved to New York working for Harper's Bazaar between 1945 and 1947 then moved back to Paris where he built a very special and close relationship with Maison Dior for which he worked until the mid 80's on multiple advertising campaigns. His most iconic drawings have been for Dior couture and cosmetics, Moulin Rouge and Le Lido. The Ziegfled Follies were a succession of Broadway musicals in New York between 1907 and 1931. It became a radio show between 1932 and 1936 called "The Ziegfeld Follies of the Air". Two films on these shows were produced in 1936 and 1945. These shows were created by Florenz Ziegfeld.
