This gorgeous Florentine 19th Century white lacquered and gilt wood doorway belongs to the period called “Firenze Capitale” (1865 to 1871). The white lacquer highlight the splendor of gilt leaf details and the great shape of this one-of-a-kind doorway. The front of the door is decorated with a masterfully carved gilt wood frames throughout enriched by a shell, scrolls and floral patterns. The original finely chiseled gilt bronze hardware work perfectly. Both ormolu hinges and lock are a real work of art, made with lost wax casting method. Their shapes completely fit the regal style of the door. The back of the door is decorated with a gold leaf frame. Florence was Capital city of Italy from 1865 to 1871 and in that period the city (my city :) ) has seen many changes due to this new important institutional role. The capital’s government offices found their headquarters in the great palazzi of the antique town centre and probably the door come from one of these. Infact, in Villa/Museum La Petraia, a Villa in Florence owned by The Medici Family, one can admire doors very similar to that one. Beautiful antique patina and gold leaves artwork. Perfect condition. Measures: Height. 2.65 m., width 1.27 m. (including framework), depth 14 cm.
